So you shall also present a contribution to the LORD from all your tithes, which you receive from the people of Israel. And from it you shall give the LORD’s contribution to Aaron the priest. Out of all the gifts to you, you shall present every contribution due to the LORD; from each its best part is to be dedicated.
The context of the preceding chapters is of rebellion against leadership and the duties of the priests and Levites. Then we move into an interesting section dealing with the Levites receiving the tithe of the people and they in turn giving a tithe to the priests. The command is that they are to give the best part as their tithe. In fact as you read of the sacrificial system in the Old Testament it continually declares you give the best.
I like the idea of honouring leaders – priests – and giving the best to them. All too often I look at them and treat them as if they are just men, I fail to honour them in so many ways.
Maybe it is easy to think of giving the best of the best to Moses. What of the leaders you serve, will you give them the best of the best today?
