Listening to John Piper (pictured here) he quoted a friend of his speaking about modern worship,

“We love loving God, more than we love God”

Maybe if worship is your thing that is a direct challenge. But what if you are a preacher or teacher, what if you serve readily, or give generously, what if you are a gifted sportsman – how often do you worship the exercise of your gift or call? How about worshipping your own theological preference – I can tell you here in India that is a biggie, how many churches resound to the cry of, ‘we are right and they are wrong’ when talking about their view of God, worship, baptism, the Lord’s Supper etc.

You can insert your own gift (idol), but ask yourself are you worshipping God or using your gift, they are not synonymous.
